The Imperial Wine Company Ltd was founded in 1995. When we first started, we believed that there was a real need for a good, down to earth, friendly and helpful specialist wine shop offering a range of interesting wines mostly from small producers. An affordable alternative to the increasing anonymity and sameness of the supermarkets and big off-licence chains. It hasn’t always been easy but we have persevered with our vision of bringing as many as possible of the world’s more interesting and innovative wines to our customers. We have been rewarded by the resulting growth in demand for the more characterful styles.
That’s not to say that we go out of our way to look for bizarre and unusual wines but we do do our best to source the best style and quality from each region of the world. If we cannot find wines that we consider worthy we will not include them in our list even if it leaves a gap.
As our business has grown we have been able to access more and more of the hard to come by wines from producers that are too small to be of interest to the large retail groups and we have been able to reward our regular and loyal customers with allocations of these. We now ship almost all of our wines directly from the producers, which gives us exclusive access to fantastic wines and allows us to further strengthen our price competitiveness.
